- Oaks Arrestees Benefit Concert: January 26, 2008, at Redwood Gardens in Berkeley, CA. Organized by the Oaks Arrestees Defense Committee to benefit the legal expenses of those arrested for bring food and water to the oak grove tree sitters.
- Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival: January 18th-20th, 2008, at SEIU Local 1021 building in San Francisco. An annual festival to honor Dr. Martin Luther King and a weekend of solidarity in an era of war, racism, and hard times. The chorus performed an immigration narrative with songs that includes immigration stories written by members of the chorus about their family histories.
- Educating for Justice:
Teaching for Labor and Community Power Conference: November 16th-17th, 2007, at City College in San Francisco. The conference brought together labor and worker's rights educators, community organizers, and student activists. The Southwest Labor Studies Association gave the chorus their Distinguished Service Award for boosting the morale of fighters for justice. We also received the Elaine and Karl Yoneda Memorial Award in cooperation with the Southwest Labor Studies Association. They presented us with its annual award and a check for $200.00.
- Highlander Research and Education Center 75th Anniversary: Labor Day Weekend (2007) in Tennesse near Knoxville. Since 1932, Highlander has gathered workers, grassroots leaders, community organizers, educators, and researchers to address the most pressing social, environmental and economic problems facing the people of the South. Highlander sponsors educational programs and research into community problems, as well as a residential Workshop Center for social change organizations and workers active in the South and internationally. Generations of activists have come to Highlander to learn, teach, and prepare to participate in struggles for justice. The Labor Chorus and Vukani Mawethu were honored to be invited to perform our historical narrative with songs about Highlander's fight for social justice.
